Do you recycle now? Why?
Yes, I do. I often recycle small things such as delivery boxes and plastic bottles for a second use. I do this mainly because I don’t want to waste them, and they are actually pretty useful.
Did you recycle when you were a child?
Yes, I did. I remember when I was a kid, there were many merchants that wanted to buy our recyclable plastic bottles. So, I often collected those beverage plastic bottles and sold them to earn some pocket money. This article is from Laokaoya website. I felt that was a nice thing as I did my part to protect the environment and I also got my rewards.
Will you recycle in the future?
Yes, I will. I probably won’t recycle those plastic bottles as I did in my childhood because I don’t have much time doing so. But, I think I am going to check out the stuff I’ve bought this year and recycle those that can be reused for maybe another year.
What kind of things do you recycle?
Normally, I would recycle those packages of products that are useful for another purpose. I remember I got a metal box of cookies from the local supermarket. The box was made with good quality and was sealed very well. So, I reused it as a container for other foods such as peanuts.
1
Do you ever discuss the topic of the environment with your friends?
Yes, quite often, it's a hot topic. The governments are always talking about their 'green policies' and what we need to be doing to protect the environement, recycle and save energy and natural resources.
That affects us all in some way, just the other day I was complainng to another student because of a new policy in our class of not printing out handouts but asking students to download them instead. It's some sort of plan to reduce the amount of paper the university is consuming, but it doesn't seem like a very sensiblepolicy to me because of the way they have implemented it.
sensibleadj.
英文釋義:practical and functional
implementv.
Put (a decision, plan, agreement, etc.) into effect:
2
Do you think that air-conditioning in buildings is a form of
environmental pollution?
Well, I suppose most people wouldn't consider it as something which pollutes, in fact most air conditioning systems actually help purify the air within the environment they are serving, making it cleaner for people in the office or building in question.
Personally, I don't think that an air conditioning system causes environmental pollution, directly. If that was the case then almost everything we use causes environmental pollution.
You could argue that the energy used by such systems causes natural resources to be consumed, therefore contributing to the impact on the environment. Most systems run on electricity and that has to be generated somehow, either by burning coal, oil or using a nuclear power stationfor example, all of which cause environmental pollution at different levels.
purify the air 凈化空氣
英文釋義:being considered or discussed
a nuclear power station一個核電站
3
Do you think the environment will be improved in the future or do you think it will get worse?
It's difficult to say, I mean we are certainly more aware of the impact we are having on the environment than we were a generstion ago, but who can predict the future? The major source of pollution is still the burning of fossil fuels such as oil and coal for energy, whether it's for industry, homes or to drive your car.
We've seen some changes recently in national energy policies and now of course electric carsare beginning to be produced, so you might assume that we will at some point in the future solve our energy requirements without relying on oil and similar natural resources.
If that happens then I think we will see a big decrease in the amount of pollution we generate. Of course, it may take another two or three generations to make those changes, but at least we are moving in the right direction, so personally I'm quite optimistic for the long term future.
進入室里大家能夠主動問:“May I sit down?” 若碰到了隨和健談的考官,可能會問你:“How are you today?”這時你可千萬別說:“Oh, I’m really nervous because my spoken English is terrible.”
